From Routes 22, 24, 1 & 9 or I-78: 1. Take any of these highways towards Newark (they all converge just north of Newark Airport). 2. Take exit for Route 21 (Newark). Route 21 becomes McCarter Highway in downtown Newark. 3. For U.S. Court House: From McCarter Highway turn left onto Lafayette St., then turn left onto Mulberry St. (3 blocks down). Court House is two blocks down on the right, between Franklin and Walnut Sts. Martin Luther King, Jr. Federal Bldg, and Court House is on Walnut St., one block further. Note: Walnut St. is closed to vehicular traffic between Mulberry and Broad Sts., for security reasons. For Essex County Court House: From McCarter Highway, turn left onto Raymond Blvd., then turn left onto Mulberry St. (one block down), then turn right onto Market St. Court House is three blocks up, at the junction of Market St. and Springfield Ave. For Wilentz Justice Complex, take Market St. to Washing ton St., then turn right onto Washington St. Wilentz Complex is 1 ½ blocks down on the right.

From the Garden State Parkway:

Take Exit 145 to I-280 East. Then proceed as below.

From I-280 East:

1. Take Exit 14A for King Blvd. 2. Turn right at the traffic light at the bottom of the exit ramp onto Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. (formerly High St.). 3. Essex County buildings are about ¾ mile down (Old Court House is on the left, Hall of Records is on the right). For Wilentz Justice Complex, turn left onto Market St. (immediately before Court House), then turn left onto Washington St. (2 blocks from Court House). Wilentz Complex is 1 ½ blocks down, on the right. For U.S. Court House, turn left on Court St. (5 blocks past Old Court House). U.S. Court House is 6 blocks down on the left.

From I-280 West:

1. Take Exit 14B, Broad St./King Blvd. Turn left at bottom of exit ramp. 2. Turn left a second time onto Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Blvd. (approximately 50 feet from exit ramp). 3. Essex County buildings are about ¾ mile down. (Old Court House is on the left, Hall of Records is on the right). For Wilentz Justice Complex turn left onto Market St. (immediately before the Court House), then turn left onto Washington St. (2 blocks from Court House). Wilentz Complex is 1 ½ blocks down on the right. For U.S. Court House, turn left onto Court St. (5 blocks past Old Court House). U.S. Court House is 6 blocks down on the left.

From N.J. Turnpike:

Take 15W to I-280 West. Then proceed as above.

From Route 3:

1. Take exit for Route 21 South (Newark). 2. Take Route 21 South into downtown Newark, where it becomes McCarter Highway. 3. For U.S. Court House: From McCarter Highway turn right onto Lafayette St., then turn left onto Mulberry St. (3 blocks down). Court House is 2 blocks down on the right, between Franklin and Walnut Sts. For Essex County Court House: From McCarter Highway, turn right onto Market St. Court House is at the junction of Market St. and Springfield Ave. For Wilentz Justice Complex, take Market St. to Washington St., then turn right onto Washington St. Wilentz Complex is 1 ½ blocks down on the right.

PARKING

Street parking is generally scarce in downtown Newark. For the Essex County buildings, parking is permitted in the juror parking lots near the County Courts Bldg. between 13th and S. Orange Aves. (nonjurors must pay a fee). There are no public parking lots near the U.S. Court House, but there are several commercial lots in the area, the nearest being on Mulberry St., between Green and Elm

Sts.
