Louis J. DeVoto, Esq., Personal Injury Attorney Profile

Louis J. DeVoto
is certified as a civil trial attorney by the New Jersey Supreme Court and the National Board of Trial Advocacy.  He is a former Judicial Law Clerk for the Honorable Marvin E. Schlosser of the New Jersey Superior Court and is a Past President of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey, an organization dedicated to improving and preserving the civil justice system. 

A past Executive Editor of the Ohio Northern University Law Review, he has written legal articles on the law for national legal publications and frequently lectures at legal seminars for New Jersey’s Institute for Continuing Education. He is an active member of the Burlington and Camden County Bar Associations and the American Association of Justice-NJ.

The New Jersey Law Journal recognized Mr. DeVoto in 2002 as one of the top 40 attorneys in the State under the age of 40. Martindale Hubbel has awarded him with its AV rating, the highest achievable for legal skill and ethics. In 2004, Lou has argued several high profile cases decided by the New Jersey Supreme Court.  Lou received the 2011 “Professional Lawyer of the Year Award” by the New Jersey Commission on Professionalism in the Law.

Lou was selected by his peers for inclusion in The Best Lawyers in America, a publication widely regarded by the legal profession and public as a definitive guide to legal excellence in the United States.

Lou has extensive jury trial and appellate experience and is licensed to practice in the U.S. Supreme Court and all Federal and State Courts in New Jersey and Pennsylvania. His practice is made up of 100% plaintiff’s personal injury litigation.  He resides with his wife and three children.

Lou was elected President of the Trial Attorneys of New Jersey. The annual meeting took place at the Molly Pitcher in Red Bank. DeVoto will lead the 800 member trial organization for a one year term beginning in October 2007. The organization’s purpose is to protect and defend the right to a trial by jury. DeVoto also published a book chapter in the legal publication “Inside the Minds, Domestic and International Litigation Strategies.” His chapter was titled “It’s All About Time Devotion and Passion” and appears in book stores and law libraries across the country. Lou also lectured for the Camden County Bar Organization on the new rules affecting “voir dire” which is the process where lawyers and judges question potential jurors to see if they can be fair and impartial.
